Some Notes from Mrs. Fetzer's Art Lit Presentations

Monday, October 26, 2009

Just wanted to say Mrs. Fetzer's Art Lit classes went fairly well. Kim did the presentations and Art Project for 2 classes and Cathy Did the art Project for last class. Although, the presentation really only needed one person there to do it. I just stood there really. We also found out that there really is no time for questions. In the last last class, Kim whipped through the slides and we only had 5 min left to even go over the properties. She reported that the other class didn't even get through all the slides. So I would hold all questions until the end if there is even time.

As far as the second part/day for the Art Project. Having 3 people would really have helped. One to explain the project and 2 more people to help out, set up, and clean up. Even Mrs Fetzer had to jump in and assist and we barely got done. Also, many of the kids pieces came out too dark. I recommend only putting a very small amount of black paint and a whole lot of white to make the gray. It is a 10 to 1 ratio or more of white to black. It also might have been helpful to have pre-mixed the gray up for the kids. They kept adding way too much black. Also, because of the classes before, the sponges were still damp (after washing them) and it made it hard to lightly brush the gray on. The damp sponges kept pulling the black lines out of the grooves. It worked much better with the dry sponges.

Anyway, just some helpful tips for the next classes.
